The Weather Machine
reaper.necrobones.net
NOTE: The Weather Machine may have run its course. The
sensors are starting to fail-- The barometer is having spikes multiple days long that
make it look like we're under 6 atmospheres of pressure. The rain gauge reset itself
back to zero in the middle of a month and has not logged any additional rain. The
anemometer isn't recording any wind, and the directional vane completely fell off. The
outdoor thermometer/hygrometer has flatlined. So all four sensor units are having problems.
Is it really worth replacing the whole thing?
If I can get the barometer working smoothly again (may just be a bad battery or something),
I may retire the rest and just log the barometric pressure.

Welcome to The Weather Machine running on reaper!
Every mad scientist needs his own weather machine, right? So here it is.
NOTE: I'm aware of the unusually high
temperature readings during the daytime. The weather station unfortnuately
has to exist within a fairly small amount of proprty, all of which has a
southern exposure and is surrounded by conrete and blacktop. I've tried
a variety of methods for keeping it out of the sun, and while I've been
successful at keeping it well hidden from direct sunlight, the whole area
warms up considerably when the sun is shining. It's much more accurate on
overcast days, and at night. The errors are particularly egregious on
days that are sunny and hot. In its current location, it also
receives warm air emitted from the heat exchanger for the air conditioner,
resulting in hour-long "humps" on the graph during the day that are typically
up to five degrees strong at their peak. In the not-too-distant future, I
intend to move the sensor and install an aspirated solar-shield in an effort
to minimize this effect.
